Women’s Fertility AMH Test

$119.00

Measures anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), a hormone made by the ovaries that is often used to estimate egg supply. One blood draw, any day of your cycle. This test does not diagnose a condition, measure egg quality or predict pregnancy.

Description

Test details

  • AMH (anti-Mullerian hormone): a hormone made by small follicles in the ovaries. Levels are often used as a marker of ovarian reserve, which is the remaining egg supply.
  • Blood sample, collected in person at our Buffalo Grove or Lake Zurich location.
  • For ages 18 and older. The person being tested must bring a matching photo ID.

How?

  • Buy the test online, then visit either location for a short blood draw.
  • AMH changes very little through the month, so most people can test on any day of the cycle.

How long?

  • 4 to 10 business days after the lab receives your sample. Some results take longer.

How to prepare?

  • No special preparation is usually needed. Follow any instruction given at your visit.

Do I need to see a doctor?

  • A doctor’s visit is not required to buy this test.
  • This test does not diagnose a condition. Review your results with your own healthcare provider.

Additional information about the test

People order an AMH test when they are planning a pregnancy, thinking about egg freezing or IVF, noticing irregular periods, or wondering about their fertility timeline.

AMH generally goes down with age. A higher level generally points to a larger egg supply and is also common with PCOS. A lower level generally points to a smaller egg supply. Your report shows the laboratory’s reference range. Ranges can differ between labs.

This test does not measure egg quality, does not predict the chance of pregnancy, and cannot tell you when menopause will start. Age, overall health and other tests all matter for fertility.

AMH does not include FSH, LH or estradiol. For those hormones, see the Female Hormone Panel. To learn more first, read AMH Blood Test: What It Measures and What It Does Not Show. Related tests: Menopause Panel and Pregnancy Blood Test.

What does the Women’s Fertility AMH Test measure?

It measures anti-Mullerian hormone in a blood sample. The level is often used to estimate ovarian reserve, or egg supply.

Can I take this test on any day of my cycle?

Usually yes. AMH changes very little during the month.

Does a low AMH mean I cannot get pregnant?

No. AMH does not measure egg quality or predict pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider about your result.

Does birth control change AMH?

Hormonal birth control may lower AMH in some people. Tell the person drawing your blood if you use it.

Do I need a doctor’s order?

A doctor’s visit is not required to buy this test. Review your results with your own healthcare provider.

Safety and when to get care

  • AMH does not tell you whether you can or cannot get pregnant. Talk with a provider before making fertility or treatment decisions.
  • Severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding or fainting needs urgent care.
  • Do not stop or change any medicine because of a result without talking with your provider.
  • This test is not an emergency service. For severe or sudden symptoms, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room instead of waiting for results.

Questions about this test

What does the AMH test measure?

Anti-Mullerian hormone, produced by developing egg follicles. It is the most reliable blood marker of ovarian reserve, meaning how many eggs remain, and is used in fertility planning and before IVF or egg freezing.

When in my cycle should I test AMH?

Any day. AMH stays stable across the cycle, unlike FSH and estradiol.

What is a normal AMH level?

Roughly 1.0 to 4.0 ng/mL is typical for women in their 20s and 30s. Under 1.0 suggests diminished ovarian reserve; above 4.0 can be seen with PCOS. Levels fall with age.

Does AMH predict whether I can get pregnant?

It estimates egg quantity, not egg quality or your chance of natural conception in a given month. A low AMH does not mean you cannot conceive, and a high AMH does not guarantee it.

Can I test AMH on birth control?

Yes, although hormonal contraception can lower AMH by 20 to 30 percent. For the most accurate baseline, test after being off hormonal birth control for 2 to 3 months, or interpret the result with that in mind.

How long do AMH results take?

4 to 10 business days after the lab receives your sample. Some results take longer.
